Lucky he didn't use AOL

wouldn't have taken him so long to lose it

BBC News

On a semi-related point, eg the internet, I am still trying out both Firefox 2 and IE7 to see whether it may be time to give Microsoft another chance at being my preferred browser. However, currently this is being posted with FF2 and the spell checker comes in mighty handy for someone like me.

Even in Milton Keynes

I seem to have come down with a nasty chest infection, hence no updates. Thought I'd let you know on the off chance that you were were wondering where I was.

I hope to be back up to steam in the next few days, as that is when the antibiotics are finished. So if I am not better then I suppose a trip back to the docs will be called for.

MK News

The above is one of the free papers delivered around MK. In fact we get so many free papers and they are so large that the paperyounglings are given trolleys to deliver the biggest of them. The MK News isn't one of these, and you can check out their web-site on the right, this is a smaller paper.

Anyhow there was this article in yesterdays paper and I really don't know how to respond. Should I laugh or cry? Here I am trying to tell the world that MK is more than just roundabouts and concrete cows and yet we* complain at things like this. Anyhow, take a look and see what you think here.

*I use this as a collective pronoun. I have as much in common with the people who complain, as Nigel Lawson has with a Sri Lankan tea leaf picker

Weatherpixie

OK, I saw this on another blog and went to check it out. Weatherpixie gives you a little graphic and a local weather report that you can paste onto your blog/ site. Well I went through the process, tinkering around and wondering whether, I should have the weather on this site.

I decided not to though when I wasn't able to add Milton Keynes as my weather place. Now normally this wouldn't bother me, I would simply choose London. However, weatherpixie did offer one or two other more obscure places. So until weatherpixie notices that Milton Keynes, is bigger, better and much more fun to be at, than Middle Wallop I'll keep my forecast to myself.

Muslim Veils (Burka), caning and flat caps

Another member of the MK crew, well he's not actually, as he lives in Devon at the moment, is my dad. He is wonderful at Hallowe'en as he can scare us all with tales of when he was at School. He was at school in the days when corporal punishment was mandatory and sweet rationing had just been abolished - well that's how things balanced out, it's the old yin and yang of life*

Anyhow, he visited on the weekend and we were talking over dinner (we did the whole Sunday lunch thing, which was nice). As normal we got around to talking about current affairs and after warning my mum about the dangers of believing anything written in the Daily Mail, we moved onto the whole 'veil' issue, and the suspension of a teaching assistant for wearing one at work. It wasn't a particularly serious conversation as it ended when my dad piped up...

'Lucky she didn't go to my old school, our headmaster once caned a lad for wearing a flat cap.'

I'll reveal more of these stories as we go on, as they have been a source of entertainment for years

*See the latest Mint card adverts for confirmation about how life balances out**

**Please note I am not that stupid

That's my boy

Let me introduce you to another member of the cast. My youngest has just become a teen and he is like any other teen boy in the country... well almost. He likes his football, is loud and eats food mainly from the 'sugar' group.

Let's call him JJ.

During one of those advertisement breaks on the TV we were shown the new CD from Sandi Thom

When JJ heard the title of this he said, ' Is she one of those people who thinks too much', I don't add the question mark as the comment was purely rhetorical, that's my boy.

He has also been doing a paper round over the summer to earn some money. As he is only 13 he needs a work permit to do this. So we applied for one. We got an answer yesterday saying that the permit was refused becasue his school attendence was unsatisfactory. This attendence was based on the new term which started a couple of weeks back. As he has had a few days off, for a bad virus, his attendence was down. When we contacted the work permit dudes, they said that if his attendence improved he could get a permit. He needs to increase his attendence by 10%, which, becasue it is so new into the term, equates to him attending for the rest of this week and next. Essentially, the idiots have refused a permit becasue they don't understand percentages. If you have three days off out of three you have an attendence of 0%. If you have three days off out of six your attendence is 50%.

Roll on the free economy... at this rate I'll be voting Tory at the next election. Well I would if this guy was the leader :-)

Only joking

It's time the tale were told...

Hi dudes and dudettes.
Just a little note to say that Cold Tea is running down. But wait, don't worry too much, I know you hang on every word I speak forth so... let me introduce you to the replacement blog.

This is the new blog about daily life as per me in Milton Keynes. So pop along and have a read and hopefully take a little understanding about Milton keynes away with you.
So long, and thanks for the fish.
